1975 - 1976

We moved out of the ASTA Theatre on 12th Street, were nomads relying on the kindness of our friends in the Washington arts community for performance spaces.  These included Arena Stage (what is now The Fichandler), The Folger Theatre, The Phillips Collection Music Room and my apartment to produce staged readings of new plays.  Then on January 1, 1976, Paul Hildebrand, Jr. lent us enough money for the first month's rent and we took over the old Holton Arms Girl's School gymnasium at 1742 Church STreet, NW, Washington, DC and began turning it into t theatre. The process took many years, but we accomplished it ... and even thought NPT no longer exists, The Church Street Theatre is still operational which is a testament to a lot of people's determination and hard work in the 1970's.
